The coronavirus has largely affected the transport industry and put an end to it. However, there are a few people who still have the need to fly and provide care to others, as essential workers. It is obvious that traveling domestically has become so scary mostly to those individuals that can not drive themselves to their destination.
Regardless of the risks that come with traveling domestically, there are some coronavirus tips that you should consider.
1. Wear a face mask
There are high chances that you may have contracted the virus even if there are no symptoms. In order to protect yourself and others, the center for disease and control have recommended that you wear a mask that covers your nose and mouth while in the public. In case some of the stores are out of the mask, you can always make your own using scarfs, towels, or even a t-shirt. The CDC also has a guide on the right way of making a mask.
Ensure that once you wear the mask, you won’t touch it until you wash your hands. Also, children under the age of two years should not put on a mask.
2. Avoid public transportation
The safest way of traveling during the coronavirus pandemic is to avoid as many people as possible. Ensure you avoid public transportation if you can. You can opt to use your own car to the airport, have someone who has been tested to drive you or better still take a taxi to your destination.
However, if your only means of transport is the public, ensure you put on a mask as always and avoid touching surfaces as possible.
3. Wash your hands frequently and bring sanitizers
At every point of your journeys such as after arriving in the airport, getting off the plane, or even after getting off the security check, ensure you find the nearest bathroom and wash your hands with water and soap. If the soap and water are not readily available, use a sanitizer to disinfect yourself.
A lot of airports have hand sanitizers set up ready for use. In addition, also bring wipes in case you touch any surface while on the plane.
4. Sit by the window and stay seated
As a result of the cleaning that is done at the airport, the viruses can not spread that easily on the plane. However, you can also contract the virus if you sit close to six feet to someone who has been infected. In order to increase your safety, ensure you sit by the window throughout your flight. This is essential since it limits the chances of exposure to a lot of people and surfaces.
5. Pack food and a reusable water bottle
A lot of airports have put on hold the food and beverage services on planes to prevent unnecessary interactions that can promote the spread of the virus. Even though there some airports that still offer the services, it is better to pack your own food and water from home. At the same time, ensure you carry a reusable water bottle to refill water at one of the available refill stations.
The center for disease and control has stated that the COVID-19 is spread through respiratory droplets produced when an individual coughs, talks, sneezes, or when an infected person is closer to you within six feet. If you still have to travel, your best bet of staying safe is to observe the above tips.
